Saturday
July 12th
Arrive to Quito
Transfer to Hotel Quito
Orientation Briefing to the participants. Very comfortable hotel with big gardens, great place to look for Scrub Tanager and Black tailed Trainbearer.
DAY 2
Sunday
July 13th
Quito - Sachatamia Lodge Early breakfast at 6 a.m. and departure for Yanacocha Reserve. Half day birding looking for high altitude birds at least 12 species of hummingbirds including Golden breasted, Sapphire vented and Black breasted Pufflegs (the last one seasonal and with luck). Several species of Mountain Tanager. Afterwards driving down along the famous Nono Mindo road arriving to the lodge in the afternoon.

DAY 3
Monday
July 14th
Full Day Sachatamia All day birding lower elevation sites on west slope of Andes at Rio Silanche Bird Sanctuary and Pedro Vicente Maldonado area. In this area we can look for many of the Choco endemics such as Blue whiskered Tanager and Scarlet breasted Dacnis.

Tuesday
July 15th
Full Day Sachatamia Very early visit to Andean Cock-of-the-Rock lek at the Paz Reserve. View antpittas lured from forest. Look for Dark-backed Wood Quail, Golden-headed Quetzal, and Toucan Barbet on forest trails. Afternoon birding in Milpe Bird Sanctuary looking for Club winged Mannakin and other specialties of the area.

DAY 5
Wednesday
July 16th
Return to Quito Visit Mindo valley to look for birds we haven’t seen previous days, return for early lunch and drive to upper part of Bellavista Reserve on the way back to Quito.

DAY 6
Thursday
July 17th
Quito - Sani Lodge Morning flight to Coca (30 mins), two and a half hours motorized canoe along the Napo River, where we will have started birding. Box lunch along the way and arriving to the lodge in the afternoon. As well as great birding we can hope to see some mammals here too. One night we will also go out and look for night birds that will hopefully be around like Crested, Spectacled, Black banded and Mottled Owls.

Sani Lodge Birding from the tower looking for the canopy birds like Opal rumped, Opal crowned, Paradise and Turquoise Tanagers, many Cotingas, several species of Woodpeckers etc.

July 19th
Sani Lodge Very early birding along the trails nearby looking for Rufous, Great and Common Potoos. Afternoon visit to the islands, birds to see are Black and white Antbird, River Tyranulet, and other island specialties.

DAY 9
Sunday
July 20th
Sani Lodge Early departure to the Yasuni National Park to visit the parrot clay licks for a variety of parrots, parakeets and with luck macaws. Box lunch in the field, do a trail to look for Antbirds, Antwrens and Manakins.

Sani - Quito Early birding in dugout canoes to catch sight of birds such as Straight billed Woodcreeper, Rufous headed Woodpecker, Kingfishers and Flycatchers

Tuesday
July 22nd
Quito - Papallacta Hot Springs Early breakfast and departure for Antisana Reserve to look for high elevation birds including Andean Condor and Black faced Ibis. Continue to Cayambe Coca Reserve above Papallacta Pass to look for Rufous-bellied Seedsnipe, Giant Conebill and Blue Mantled Thornbill.

DAY 12
Wednesday
July 23rd
Papallacta - San Isidro Lodge Early morning birding along private road at Hot Springs property. Birds to look for: Paramo Tapaculo, White browed Spinetail and Andean Pygmy Owl. Mid-morning birding Guango Reserve and viewing hummingbirds at feeders. Afternoon birding road on the way to San Isidro. Look for the mysterious San Isidro Owl after dark.

San Isidro All day birding private reserve and trails around San Isidro. Look for Tanagers like Saffron crowned and Rufous crested, as well as Flycatchers and other species, especially the Antpittas like Chestnut crowned and White bellied.

Friday
July 25th
San Isidro Early departure to look for Swallow-tailed Nightjar. Morning birding Guacamayos Ridge. Box lunch. Afternoon birding upper Loreto Road and along Archidona. Back to lodge in afternoon.

Saturday
July 26th
San Isidro - Quito Early birding along the Santa Lucia de Bermejo Road, stunning scenery and good place for Black and Chestnut Eagle, Highland Motmot and with luck White capped Tanager. Lunch at lodge, and start return trip to Quito through Highlands picking up any species that haven’t been previously spotted.
